SOCKS is an Internet protocol that exchanges network packets between a client and server through a proxy server. SOCKS5 additionally provides authentication so only authorized users may access a server. Practically, a SOCKS server proxies TCP connections to an arbitrary IP address, and provides a means for UDP packets to be forwarded.
SOCKS performs at Layer 5 of the OSI model (the session layer, an intermediate layer between the presentation layer and the transport layer). SOCKS server accepts incoming client connection on TCP port 1080
Bogon filtering is the practice of filtering bogons, which are bogus (fake) IP addresses of a computer network . Bogons include IP packets on the public Internet that contain addresses that are not in any range allocated or delegated by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) or a delegated regional Internet registry (RIR) and allowed for public internet use. The areas of unallocated address space are called the bogon space . Bogons also include reserved private address [1] and link-local address ranges, such as those in 10.0.0.0/8 , 172.16.0.0/12 , 192.168.0.0/16 , and 169.254.0.0/16 , which are reserved for private networks , [1] sometimes also known as Martian packets .
